10 US Office Episodes Every Dwight Schrute Fan Should (Re-)Watch
6. Dwight Christmas (Season 9, Episode 9)
“Judgement is nigh, for the Belsnickel is’t I!”
In the season 9 Christmas episode, Dwight is given the reigns to lead the festivities in the form of a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas. The office experiences first-hand the typical Christmas that Dwight had growing up. Key features include the delectable roasted hog maw, the breaking of the pig rib and the furthest you can get from Santa Claus… Belsnickel. Clad in his fantastically distressing costume and brandishing his makeshift whip, Dwight declares who has been ‘impish’ and who has been ‘admirable’ (which is 100% different to the typical ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’)…
As his glorious Christmas chaos ensues, we see how affected Dwight is when Jim has to leave for a meeting in Philadelphia. This shows a new side to Dwight’s relationship with his arch-nemesis, as well as strengthening the bond between him and Pam, as they both struggle with Jim’s absence.
All is well when Jim returns and you can’t help but smile at Dwight’s joy at seeing his clump-mate back for more Belsnickel havoc. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to try out a traditional Schrute Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas?
