5. The Coup (Season 3, Episode 3)
The ever-loyal Dwight has a rare moment of rebellion in ‘The Coup’.
Egged on by Angela, Dwight attempts to persuade Jan into believing that Michael is unfit to remain regional manager of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. Instead, he makes an almost convincing argument in favour of his own leadership skills. He is sure of his success and returns to the office with a smug confidence.
Unbeknownst to Dwight, Jan informs Michael of their conversation, leading to a brilliant few minutes of television as Michael toys with his second in command. The scene where he squeezes Dwight’s dentist alibi shows a genuinely threatening side to Michael and Dwight’s ridiculous defence makes it one of the funniest interactions between the two.
