10 Wasted Simpsons Characters That Deserved Better

6. Maude Flanders

Over the three plus decades that The Simpsons has been on the air, there have been a handful of characters killed off for good. Possibly the one that received the worst reaction from the fans was that of Maude Flanders, who met her demise when she fell victim to a rogue t-shirt cannon shot.

Reportedly, the reason behind the character's death was behind the scenes contract issues with her voice actor, Maggie Roswell. When there was a dispute between Roswell and Fox, she left the show, resulting in the writers taking the bold step of killing off Maude for good.

However, they didn't do this for Helen Lovejoy, Miss Hoover, or Luann Van Houten, Roswell's other characters, and when she returned to the show just three years later, these were able to carry on as normal. Maude however, couldn't. She has made several appearances as a ghost and in flashbacks since Roswell's return, but she could never return in any real capacity.

Maude was never the most exciting, or the most popular character in the show, and she didn't grab our attention with memorable catchphrases or comical accents, but The Simpsons fans are fiercely loyal, and any character that was treated so poorly would have seen support from them.
