10 Ways Breaking Bad Was Almost Completely Different

5. Tuco Was Supposed To Be Around A Lot Longer

Breaking Bad featured several memorable villains €“ not least Walter White himself €“ but the open nature of the writing staff€™s approach and the whims of happenstance effected several changes to best-laid plans. Raymond Cruz had carved out a respectable career prior to meeting with Vince Gilligan, with appearances in films such as Training Day and Alien: Resurrection standing alongside recurring roles in My Name is Earl and 24. Nevertheless, for countless TV and film fans he will forever be Tuco Salamanca, Breaking Bad€™s first and still most volatile villain. Tuco only appeared in a handful of episodes but he certainly made a lasting impression €“ the €œThis is not meth€ scene in Crazy Handful of Nothin€™ was one of the show€™s early standout scenes €“ and there was supposed to be a lot more to come. However, when Cruz was hired he was already a regular on police procedural The Closer and flew out on weekends to film Breaking Bad, and the exertion of his hectic schedule and sheer energy required to give Tuco his requisite intensity ultimately proved too much. Gilligan had originally planned for Tuco to be the antagonist throughout Season 2, and Cruz€™s departure necessitated a rethink and what turned out to be a rather fortuitous change. Had Cruz been available, the show would have almost certainly taken on a very different trajectory.

I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
