10 Ways Buffy The Vampire Slayer Was Almost Totally Different

5. Xander Could Have Been Gay

Sometimes poor Xander got forgotten in the crazy cast of characters that existed in Sunnydale, as being the only human in the scooby gang gave him a huge disadvantage. Xander was the goofy, fragile and flawed sidekick who's luck just kept getting increasingly worse and that's pretty much all he ever was, but we loved him anyway.

There was a moment, however, when Xander's story almost changed completely.

Joss Whedon knew from the start that he wanted one of Buffy's two best friends to come out as gay. He placed clues throughout the show, very subtle ones, so that if one day he got the green light to write that storyline, it would make sense for the character. The only thing Joss didn't know, was which one he would have come out and make history.

We all know it ended up being Willow, but it does make you wonder what the Buffyverse would have been like if Willow had stayed with Oz and if Xander had found the love of his life with another man. Either way it was an incredible story that changed the game of television for good, and Alyson Hannigan played her role exquisitely.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
