This one certainly seems likely since (as Steven Moffats episode guide in the Radio Times revealed), it is going to happen temporarily. The events of Mummy On The Orient Express (Episode 8) will see the Doctor doing something so ruthless that Clara calls it quits but they will be reunited in Flatline (Episode 9) for the rest of Series 8. This is certainly a concept that has potential and is only used very occasionally, having only cropped up in The Massacre Of St Bartholomews Eve (1965) and The Waters Of Mars. Also, a ruthless act is so broad that it could be used in a huge number of ways; meaning that Steven Moffat would have a lot of different ideas that could be explored as well as choosing one tailored to Clara. An act that another companion may have been able to look past but that Clara finds so utterly repugnant that she cant be with the Doctor any more. Though on the other hand, since this concept is already going to be used in Series 8, its simultaneously unlikely that well be seeing it again at Christmas. Especially for something as momentous as a Companions departure.
