10 Ways Game Of Thrones Is Basically Modern-Day Britain

2. The Country Is Sports Mad

It's already been mentioned that King's Landing's occupants love a good tournament, with knights, squires and warriors travelling from all over the world to take part in the Game of Thrones equivalent of the Olympic Games. While Britain is becoming a more divided country, with tensions and opinions rising, the Olympics united the public. While you wouldn't find water polo, beach volleyball or dressage in the King's Landing tourneys, the idea of giving the 'common people' some enjoyment to take their minds away from normal life remains the same, only with jousting and a good ol' fashioned melee involved. Across the Narrow Sea you have Daenerys in the fighting pits of Meereen, with the coliseum-esque arena playing host to fighting match-ups. War is almost played out like a sport too, with the relatively untrained foot soldiers proving to be little more than pawns in the chess game. King's Landing away is a tough fixture for any opponent.
