The Simpsons Movie is great. in 2007 the show was well past its prime and expectations for the long-awaited movie were pretty mixed. For the most part though, the movie hit the right notes and was surprisingly a lot of fun. It was released between the mostly forgettable Seasons 18 and 19 and for an hour and a half, gave hope that the show you once loved wasn't completely gone. It's nothing particularly original and is definitely flawed, but in terms of sheer laughs, it delivered more than any other episodes around that time. The movie worked because of its ambition. Movies are by nature, bolder and grander than television shows, and audiences expect a certain level of entertainment when they pay for the big screen. The Simpsons team were well aware of this and they put together something sure to please the fans. In trying to make the best movie they could, some of the best writers in the show's history collaborated on the script (Including James L. Brooks, Matt Groening and Al Jean) and the results are actually funny. Bringing together the old band for a sequel wouldn't be the worst thing at this point in the show to spark some ambition.
