10 Weirdest Adverts Featuring Star Trek Actors

6. Hamilton Commemorative Plates - James Doohan

James Doohan appeared in this advert for Hamilton Collectible Plates in 1986, advertising their new Star Trek collection while the original Enterprise zoomed by in the background. Adopting his familiar Scottish accent, rather than his native Canadian pattern, he encouraged collectors to pick up a commemorative Mr. Spock plate before they were sold out.

Doohan would not know however that this very plate would end up as the main point of focus in a legal battle. Hamilton advertised this particular plate as being available for 90 days only, after which time the masters for the design would be destroyed. They were taken to court when this design appeared several years later for sale again.

Hamilton were forced to issue a refund to the buyer, though they argued that the wording of their advert was merely unclear as opposed to misleading. They contended that 90 days did not necessarily mean 90 consecutive days and pledged to add more clarity to their T&Cs going forward. All of this while James Doohan was simply trying to hawk some goodies and it wasn't even his face on the thing!
