10 Weirdest Rick & Morty Storylines

There are plenty of Rick and Morty stories that tackle the multiverse. It was well established early on that this Smith family is one of an infinite number across infinite realities, and so seeing other Ricks, Mortys, Summers, Beths, and Jerrys isn’t as strange as it should be anymore.

However, there is one story that features countless different versions of the family and has almost nothing to do with the multiverse. With Rick having such a big target on his back as he does, he has a lot of fail-safes, defences, and back-up plans in place. These particular ones are decoys of the entire family.

When decoy families start getting killed by strange squid aliens, the Ricks that created them also turn out to be decoys. The whole point is that a decoy doesn’t know it’s a decoy, and Summer is the one that points out that they themselves could be decoys. It all comes to blows as a war between decoys trying to destroy other decoys while masquerading as squid aliens, meaning that no one is doing any killing but the family killing other families.

As if this wasn’t weird enough, when decoys start creating decoys, the decoys get shoddier and shoddier, and eventually they devolve into scarecrows and wooden Pinocchio-esque decoy families that are truly disturbing. Now, this writer hopes never to type the word decoy again.
