There are two types of weird storylines that make up this article. Those that are a batsh*t crazy but at least understandable, and this one. You could watch 'Never Ricking Morty' a thousand times and still never actually understand what is going on, which is kind of the point.

Rick and Morty has never been shy about making meta jokes, and it’s also never been shy about responding to certain criticisms received on the internet. This episode just felt like the writers took all of that and threw it together for one incredibly weird story.

Taking place on a train that is actually a story device that is actually a toy that Morty purchased at the Citadel, just about every aspect of a story is called out by the two from deciding what is canon, protecting continuity, working as an anthology, an act break, different themes, and so much more.

There is a villain in all of this by the name of Story Lord, who wished to tap into Rick and Morty’s apparently limitless potential, but was stopped by Rick’s idea to pray to Jesus Christ because it was something he would never do. This episode was impossible to understand to the point that it’s actually difficult to enjoy.
