10 Weirdest Storylines In The Whedonverse

1. Buffy Sings It Out - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Once More With Feeling"

Again, this needs no more introduction than the phrase "musical episode", but "Once More With Feeling" is far, far more than that. Don't get us wrong, it's certainly super-weird to have musical numbers popping up while Sarah Michelle Gellar stakes the undead in a graveyard and people dance themselves to death, but this is the kind of weird that makes TV history. As the result of a curse laid on Sunnydale by a musical demon the entire town spontaneously breaks into song as part of a plot for said demon to marry Dawn, but all that plot stuff's rather negligible as the episode's really about the hidden feelings and secrets that come out as a result of the power of musicals. From Xander and Anya's anxieties about their impending nuptials to Spike's conflicting feelings for Buffy and the Slayer herself confessing that she'd been ripped out of heaven when her friends brought her back from the dead, the show is a rollercoaster of emotions and sublime musical jokes, not to mention exactly what the casual viewer wouldn't expect from an episode of a show about monster hunters. What did you think of our list? Weird enough for you? Would you have included any other episodes? Let us know in the comments!
