10 Weirdest Storylines In The Whedonverse

10. Willow Uploads A Demon Into The Internet - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "I Robot... You Jane"

One of the episodes that's regularly regarded as falling more into the 'ridiculous' than the 'sublime' category, "I Robot, You Jane" takes place in Buffy the Vampire Slayer's first season, which is noted for being the most uneven of the whole series as the creators tried to figure out exactly what show they were going to make. Before they settled on the dark, emotion-rich but hilarious template that the extraordinary season 2 set, though, the Buffy gang made episodes like this in which Willow scans a demon from an ancient book into the internet and inadvertently unleashes said monster upon Sunnydale High School...in the form of a robot devil. Yes, they got there before Futurama ever did. As lame as the concept is - the internet is a dangerous place!!! - and hokey as the costume and effects look, we can't help but admire the willingness to try out such a bizarre concept. However, we're equally glad that this concept was tested in the early stages of Buffy, before the show truly established its tone and themes. More on robots on the next entry...
