X-Files: X-Cops

X-Files is about two FBI agents, Mulder and Scully, who investigate paranormal mysteries. Cops is a reality show that follows actual officers on the job. Trying to do a crossover between a fictional TV show and reality TV show seems like it would cause some trouble, but X-Files - somehow - makes it work.

X-Cops begins with the Cops theme song, it's filmed in the style of Cops, and tells the story in real-time so that the audience experiences the plot as the characters do. It also has Cops crew members featured in the episode, helping with production: giving the fictional episode the same tone as the reality show

It was a mad idea that could have gone terribly wrong, but the ep was positively reviewed, despite its odd premise, and X-Cops was considered a crossover success and is even often featured in lists of the best X-Files episodes.
