10 WHAT IF…? Comics Marvel Needs To Adapt For Season 2

7. What If... Shang-Chi Fought On The Side Of Wenwu?

What If
Marvel Comics

Technically, when this title was released in 1979, it was 'What If Shang-Chi Fought On The Side Of Fu Manchu'. However, given the problematic nature of Shang-Chi's father from the comics, his family tree was changed for his time in the MCU, though the prospect of him remaining by his father's side is no less mouth watering.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wenwu trained his son with his Ten Rings organisation to be a deadly assassin. At 14 years old he was sent to get revenge on the man who killed his mother, but his conscience got the better of him. He deserted his father, and only returned ten years later with the aim of killing him. But what if he stayed loyal?

In the comics, Shang-Chi is pitted against Black Jack Tarr and Clive Reston, however the MCU could take their pick of heroes to face him. Iron Man would be a no brainer thanks to his connection to the Ten Rings, but the possibilities are literally endless.

It has already been stated that season two will feature stories based around Phase Four characters, and with Shang-Chi as one of the franchise’s most popular newcomers, his inclusion is surely all but guaranteed. However, where each episode of season one introduced a new hero, this story could introduce a great new villain.
