Starbuck is undoubtedly the focus of many fan theories. Her death and subsequent rebirth are never fully explained.

How did she know the location of the first Earth? Where did her ability to play a song that triggers the unveiling of the final five Cylons aboard the human fleet come from? How do they use that song to then find our Earth? Then there's her sudden disappearance after talking with Apollo in the series finale. All this only compounded the need for the fans to find some sort of explanation for this character since the show refused to do so.

One fan theory views the returning Starbuck as a reincarnation of the Colonial goddess Aurora, who represents the dawn, as well as being a messenger who led the Cylons from Kobol to Earth.

In the show there are actually several points that indicate Starbuck's connection to the goddess. When Starbuck visits an Oracle aboard the Galactica, she is given a small winged icon of the goddess Aurora, which is later given to Admiral Adama to put as the figurehead for his model sailing ship.

This figure is then given back to Kara after her return from the dead and she is often seen playing with it as she ponders where Earth is. There even is a temple to Aurora on the first Earth. Starbuck's disappearance is then interpreted as her fulfilling her purpose like Aurora, and returning to heaven.
