A relatively recent addition to the main cast, Eugene first appeared in the season four episode Inmates and has since been one of the main players on the show. Which is a shame, because he's uniquely irritating in a way that no other character on The Walking Dead has ever been, and in almost every single way. It's not just the character in isolation, or his actions that rankle. It's both, and so much more. From a plot perspective Eugene is frustrating because he's a huge coward and a massive liability for the group, so far having gotten multiple people killed for first lying and saying there was a cure he was working on with some other scientists in Washington DC (he isn't and there wasn't), and then by mucking up a supply trip in this week's episode. Then there's just the character himself. Despite rocking the mullet and strong Southern accent Eugene's cowardice and intelligence are meant to be in stark contrast to those hillbilly signifiers, but his speech patterns are actually a million times more annoying than if he was a slack-jawed yokel. Instead, he sounds like a 14-year-old with an encyclopedia trying to be eloquent on an atheism forum.
