1. Remember The Monsters?
Oh boy...
Coming hot off the heels of Breaking Bad's near-flawless conclusion, Dexter's last outing (in Miami at least) inspired the kind of anguish normally reserved for real life catastrophes.
Depressing, plothole-laden and severely lacking in entertainment value, TV's once-hottest show went out with something not quite a whimper. From the needlessly miserable destruction of Debra Morgan (whose character in general was thrown under a bus weekly in season 8) to Dexter abandoning his son with a serial poisoner, not a single note landed right here.
Initially lead to believe Dexter committed suicide via storm in the heat of his grieving for Deb, the show rounds off on a surprise epilogue scene. Dexter, now sporting a beard and a resting sad face, is working as a lumberjack.
Why?
No one ever expected an answer given the end credits.
In 2021, Dexter: New Blood has spent little time dwelling on tree-chopping Dexter, repackaging him as a hunting store clerk in another state. As well-received as the new season has been, one can't help but feel it's mostly serving as an apology for what remains one of the most dismal finales ever put to screen.
