10 Worst Doctor Who Moments Of 2024
2. The Twist At The End
There’s always a twist at the end of a list. But it's not always a Shyamalan-worthy mind-bender.
Going into The Devil’s Chord, fans were expecting some kind of musical number – with all those shots in the trailers of the Doctor standing at a microphone and dancers singing in the rain, it would've been weird if everyone didn’t break into song at some point.
But sadly, the musical number we got just wasn’t any good.
It could have worked if it was better integrated into the episode – fix two problems at once and have the Doctor and The Beatles create a song to banish Maestro, or have the Doctor and Maestro do a duet as part of their music battle.
But if you’re going to just tack a song and dance set piece onto the end of an episode with absolutely no explanation, and include lyrics as stupid as “Pretend, descend, Land’s End, make do and mend”, you’re almost begging to be included on a list like this.
Credit where it's due though, Twist at the End is actually really catchy, and it was even the encore at this year’s Doctor Who Prom! However, when we inevitably do get more musical scenes in Doctor Who, they need to be better executed than this one.
