Community meets The Hunger Games? Okay, that sound's great. That's what the fans were hoping to say with this one, but it didn't quite go that way.

History 101 was the first episode to address the fact that the study group's time at Greendale was a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. It showed as Jeff competed in a set of elaborate games to win places in the only history class that semester, all so he could gain the required credits to leave Greendale early.

The over-the-top games weren't as fun as they sounded, as the focus was less on Jeff competing and more on the drama of him wanting to leave. If the whole group had been involved in playing the Dean's games, then this could have been great, but limiting the scope made it feel pointless.

Alongside Jeff's mission came a subplot that saw Abed have a crisis about graduating. To quell this, he went to his happy place, which was a set of fantasies that saw the cast in various TV genres. However, it was all over the place, and seeing Abed sink into imagination was something fans had seen too many times by this point.
