10 Worst Episodes Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
8. The Gang Does a Clip Show
There almost always comes a point in the lifespan of a show where they end up creating a filler episode out of previous moments. These clip shows are supposed to remind you of the good times but always come across as a lacklustre way of getting something out.
Always Sunny's response to this is to take the concept and subvert it, introducing some mind-boggling elements of confusion and altering the past. In the end, although it does something interesting with it, the episode still falls into all the potholes of this kind of structure.
Even with the memory alterations, the clips are just past jokes we've already laughed at, albeit with a little meddling. It doesn't feel like a challenge of the cliché, but rather an attempt to put their own spin on it. Whilst that is a noble intention, it doesn't save the episode from feeling unnecessary.
Also, we see The Gang choose to remember things from the past because their phones aren't working and they don't know what to do until they are fixed again. This is a weird motive as we have never seen them struggle to co-exist without phones before. It feels like a forced comment on something that isn't relevant to the show.
