10 Worst Episodes Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
3. The Gang Cracks The Liberty Bell
This is the first time that the show tries to mess with the setting and make something more outlandish. While this has worked for some chapters in the series, it really fails here.
To begin, the implication of the new setting means that the charm of the show is entirely missing. The grungy and gritty modern-day bar is what we know and love about Always Sunny. Taking it to the revolutionary period makes the episode lack that sense of contemporary Philadelphia, which is of course the show's identity.
The actors all stick to their standard delivery which makes the episode feel very cheap. It all works a little too hard for the laughs and comes across as weak.
Many other shows have taken routes like this to present episodes that stand out within their roster, but Always Sunny with its lousy attitude and specific style doesn't suit the tone that they switch to.
Finally, the focus on Cricket and Dee feels entirely like a rehash of The Gang Exploits a Miracle. If you are going to do something this out of place, then it would be better to make it an entirely original story, to justify why it is happening at all.
