8. Brian's A Bad Father
Brian is a mixed bag in Family Guy as sometimes he's a charming character, but at others times he's monstrously unlikeable. It's usually easy to ignore his worse side as his lack of self-awareness is amusing, and he often learns a lesson. That being said, it was a little hard to overlook this.
As the title suggests, "Brian's A Bad Father" follows Brian's exploits with his son (Dylan), who returns to his estranged father and reveals that he's become a TV star. Naturally, rather than bonding with his son, Brian uses this as an opportunity to further his own career.
The biggest issue with this episode comes from the fact that it's devoid of jokes. It seems to want to tell a compelling story about Brian's parenthood, but this falls flat as his journey into being a "good dad" isn't convincing at all and buying him in the role of a reformed parent is hard. So, that lack of amusing humour turns the episode into a snore-fest.
Family Guy has had success in stepping into slightly more serious territory before, but this time it didn't work.
