10 Worst Friends Episodes

Yikes, this one has not aged well. While many people might defend The One With Chandler's Dad by saying it's a product of its time, you can still see how blatantly mean-spirited and lousy it was even for when it came out.

The episode follows as Monica convinces Chandler to travel to Las Vegas and invite his estranged father to the wedding. When arriving, they see Charles Bing (Helena Handbasket) performing in a drag cabaret, which embarrasses Chandler and makes him question inviting his father.

Chandler's dad being a drag queen and living an openly LGBTQ+ lifestyle, was handled as a pure joke and a source of conflict for Chandler. It's tough to watch back without thinking that the loveable and sarcastic Chandler is an absolute jerk, as his father has done nothing besides being honest with who they are.

There are some funny side stories in this one and a somewhat emotional reunion with the Bings, but it's primarily full of uncomfortable jabs at masculinity and sexuality. Sure, it's an old show, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the episode demonises a lifestyle and makes Chandler look incredibly petty.
