10 Worst Futurama Episodes
4. Saturday Morning Fun Pit
If there's one thing that fans always welcomed with open arms in Futurama, it was a sketch show episode. These outlier outings were often a nice break from the norm, and they gave the great characters a chance to have fun without any consequences. However, they weren't all hits, as this Saturday morning cartoon parody was a far cry to the "Anthologies of Interest".
"Saturday Morning Fun Pit" takes you on a non-canon adventure as Richard Nixon's head watches three cartoon parodies featuring the Planet Express Crew amidst an anti TV violence protest. The shorts include parodies of Scooby-Doo, Strawberry Shortcake/The Smurfs and G.I. Joe.
Sadly, the promising concept is wasted on a lack of decent parody and dated references. The shorts themselves place the characters into a new world but do little to poke fun at the new settings. Each short has some great visuals, but the jokes themselves are one-note, focussing on singular subjects and adding little else.
For example, seeing Nixon try to censor G.I. Zapp or the deliberate advertisement of sugary cereal in Purpleberry Pond is funny but not enough to keep the entire segment feeling fresh and original.
