10 Worst Guest Stars In Doctor Who History

8. Roger Lloyd-Pack

It feels in bad taste to speak ill of the dead, what with the actor best known as Trigger passing on last year, so firstly let's just acknowledge what a comedy legend he was, not just in Only Fools and Horses but in The Vicar of Dibley, too. Alas, it can't be denied that, as alternative Earth creator of the Cyberman Lumic, Pack is pretty awful. This relaunch of the Cybermen, reimagined to happen in a parallel Earth as fan Russell T Davies couldn't bear to scrap decades of convoluted continuity, is a bit of a misfire from the start, replacing the original concept of the cyborgs bringing about their own fate by gradual transplant to one of a Bond like super villain basically turning everyone into robots - with flares. Nostalgia also made the producers bring back 80s director Graeme Harper who injected some of his famous pace but at the expense of any real subtlety or nuance. Pack's performance typifies this brash approach. Growling every line, Pack's Lumic is charmless and boring, undermining any sympathy fans might have for his plight (he's dying). He delivers each line as if he thinks the rest of the cast have hearing difficulties (and by the end of working with him, they probably did). It's a blessed relief, therefore, when his creations eventually stick his brain in a can.
