Talking about what makes horror series bad is incredibly difficult. Because like a bad comedy, there are only so many ways you can say "that's not scary", and if it isn't scary, what else are you honestly there for?

In the case of Hemlock Grove, not a lot to be honest.

Based on the famous (and far superior) horror novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy, Hemlock Grove centers on the eponymous town and all the strange happenings that go on in its borders.

If that premise sounds interesting, then you ought to pick up the book, and leave this dreary slog of a streaming show by the wayside.

The problem with adapting a book to the screen is that you can totally pull it off if you have more than one book to work with, or you're making a movie and thus have to cut things OUT instead of cram stuff in. However, when adapting one show into several episodes and seasons, things drag and slog as you have to pad out scenes or add in new ones. Making for a series that's more concerned with justifying its run time than being thrilling.
