10 Worst Sci-Fi TV Characters Of All Time

9. Lana Lang - Smallville

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Dawn Summers
The CW

No tights, no flights.

That was the number one rule of the game when Smallville debuted in 2001. Whilst Clark Kent remained a teenager, that rule was just fine, but past Season 4, it quickly becomes an issue. Lana Lang is Superman’s high school girlfriend traditionally, a key figure from the Man of Steel’s wholesome, all American upbringing. What she’s typically not is a vampire/ninja/ghost/villain/wife of Lex Luthor/superhero.

The writing team clearly weren’t sure of just what they wanted to do with Lana as the series went on and the character suffered for it. It became increasingly difficult to remain invested in a figure that would do a full one-eighty change week to week with little rhyme or reason.

In many ways, her story had run its course by the end of high school but the writers’ refusal to fully commit to Clark maturing into Superman left much of the series in a strange creative limbo.

A perfectly fine cast member at the start of the series, seven straight seasons of creative madness turned Lana Lang into a nonsensical mess of jumbled storylines and inconsistent development.
