4. He Became A Republican Congressman

Episode: "Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington" (Season 14, Episode 14)

After an airplane flight path is frustratingly diverted over the Simpsons' home, Bart gets the genius idea to convince Krusty to run for Congress, all in the hope of getting the flight path re-routed.

Krusty isn't sure at first, but warms to the idea once he realises that he could leverage his power to solve his nagging legal issues (namely those of the tax-based variety).

And of course, Krusty being both wealthy and harbouring towering self-interest, he runs on the Republican ticket.

Unsurprisingly, Krusty turns out to be a terrible political candidate for any party, making countless faux pas while his prior dirty laundry - namely an historic sketch where Krusty was both racist and homophobic - is aired by his Democratic opponent.

But with some help from Lisa of all people - who is being driven mad by the planes - and a typically filthy right-wing media contingent, Krusty is actually elected to Congress, only to find that nobody wants to listen to a newly-minted congressman.

Krusty eventually manages to pass a bill redirecting the air traffic by blackmailing a fellow congressman, which while a sure relief for the Simpsons, is all the proof necessary that Krusty being in politics is a terrible idea for the human race.

And you thought Trump was bad.
