5. Justin Kirk - APB

Justin Kirk is a terrific actor when he wants to be, best known for his hilarious performance as Andy Botwin on Weeds.

Kirk somehow found himself cast this year as a Tony Stark-like figure who privately funds Chicago's police force after witnessing the murder of a close friend, and couldn't feel more wrong for the part.

It doesn't help at all that APB lacks the satirical element that could make the show's otherwise troubling politics interesting: this may look like TV's answer to RoboCop on the surface, yet it takes its goofy premise far too seriously.

And that's the real problem: Kirk would've been a decent enough choice if the show was a satire, but with its oddly self-regarding tone, he gives a depressingly humourless, flat performance for the majority.

At least the show was swiftly cancelled, so he can hopefully quickly move on to worthier projects.
