10 Worst TV Performances Of 2017
4. Britt Robertson - Girlboss
Britt Robertson might be the unluckiest actress working today, finding herself cast in so many movies and TV shows that don't even begin to take advantage of her talents.
The last three years alone have seen her squandered in critical and/or commercial duds like The Longest Ride, Tomorrowland, Mother's Day, A Dog's Purpose and The Space Between Us, and her recently-cancelled show Girlboss is just the latest depressing addition.
The main problem with this show is that there's a clear disconnect between Robertson, the script and the audience. Is Kay Cannon's show, about an obnoxious young woman (Robertson) starting her own business, empowering or not?
It ultimately comes down to how unlikeable Robertson's Sophia Marlowe is, and how the actress fails to make her even remotely sympathetic when things don't go her way. She's meant to be edgy and abrasive, sure, but there's clearly supposed to be an undercurrent of begrudging audience respect for her, something that's arguably totally absent.
After a point, one has to consider that perhaps Robertson's streak of offputting performances might actually be at least partially her own doing. She has certainly failed to endear challenging characters to audiences numerous times, with Girlboss being only her latest botched attempt.
