10 Worst TV Shows Of 2016
5. Lucifer
On paper, Lucifer sounds interesting. I mean, it features a character from Neil Gaiman's stunning comic book series The Sandman, a series which is unlike most other "superhero" material out there. The character in question is - you guessed it - Lucifer Morningstar, a.k.a. the Devil, a.k.a. Satan, Lord of Darkness. Bored with Hell he decides to pay a visit to Los Angeles, where he helps the LAPD punish criminals.
Yes, it sounds absolutely bonkers. But that's not always a bad thing. In fact, shows that delight in their ridiculousness are often very fun to watch. The central flaw with Lucifer is that it doesn't push its premise far enough. For a show literally about the Devil working with the Los Angeles police department it feels so safe and familiar.
Where is the dark, grittiness that a show about Lucifer demands? Where is the twisted cruelty? All there is is a safe, routine crime show with an "edgy" lick of paint and the occasional pair of CGI wings.
