10 Worst Uses Of CGI In Anime History

5. Knights Of Sidonia

Knights Of Sidonia's CG animation is frustrating because it's the sort you can tell was made by people who genuinely loved what they were doing and wanted to make it work, but the technology just wasn't there yet for what they were trying to do.

While at times the anime can look downright marvellous, those moments are few and far between, offset by character models that just fall short of clearing the uncanny valley.

As I said, it's frustrating, because when it all meshes together, it works gangbusters. But other times you just wonder where the characters are looking because it certainly isn't what they SHOULD be looking at, and their facial movements are just a bit too stiff to be natural.

Fortunately Sidonia is mainly about mech battles, which CGI is VERY good at making look cool, which is what keeps this series from getting any higher. But hopefully Polygon pictures will have worked out all the kinks should they decide to revisit this property in the future.
