100 Reasons Why Lost is The Greatest TV Show Of All Time

1. The Ending

Putting the shows incredibly divisive ending at number one is a bold statement, however where many people were annoyed by the lack of conclusive answers I was instead mesmerised by the completed feel, the clarification of what the show was about and the twist giving it a perfect conclusion for the characters. Which is what it was all about; the characters. Christian€™s statement that nothing was more important than the time they spent together highlighted the simple fact that this was about nothing more than the emotional journey these characters underwent in their time on the Island. Jacob brought them there because they were looking for something and that Island was their test of faith, of commitment and a journey to being fixed and content. Kate & Sawyer needed to learn how to trust and love. Charlie needed to feel like a respectable man who could take care of someone. Hurley needed someone to believe in him. Ben needed someone to need him. Locke needed a renewal of faith and to feel special. Sayid needed to prove he was a good man. Jin & Sun needed to find their love for one another. Jack needed to prove he had what it took, that he could let go of reason and accept what happens because only then will things fix themselves, and through that he fixed the Island. The endings realisation that this is what it was about gave the last six seasons direction which only made re-watching them better; everything that happened on the Island was a test to get the people to that point and the afterlife, as it was revealed, is a place where they could let go, embrace the lives they were never truly happy with and move on. Some could call it a bit of a lollipop ending; but for me it gave purpose to what happened, kicked away silly ideas that this was about something much bigger and let us know that this show was always about the characters. If that€™s not enough for you, the beauty of the editing, the music and the symmetry of the ending made for a tear jerking finale as people who were Lost were reunited and Jack fulfilled his destiny, he had what it takes, he could fix what was needed to be fixed and the perfect conclusion to the best show ever was made just like it began; looking right in the eye of the characters which made the show so special. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tURVGzThiM
