9. Matt Donovan - The Vampire Diaries

Unlike usual sidelined characters, Matt Donovan's backstory is actually known within The Vampire Diaries' audience. We know that he is the ex-boyfriend of Elena Gilbert and that his sister Vicki was killed by Damon Salvatore. He is the best friend of Elena's brother Jeremy and spent a period of time during the series dating Elena's best friend Caroline Forbes. However, while he served a purpose within the show's storyline during earlier seasons, he is now being pushed into the shadows and it is clear that he now only exists to support the storyline of Katherine and Nadia. Matt is my favourite character in the show, purely because he is the only character that has stayed genuine and...human! The writers need to write him into season five the same way they used to write for him.
