1. The Time Of The Doctor
The only thing more harrowing than beginning a Doctor Who run is ending it. The Time Of The Doctor is a more than worthy successor to The End Of Time, especially in comparison to its successor, the just-kind-of-alright Twice Upon A Time.
The Doctor has long since learned that he is destined to die at some point in time on the planet of Trenzalore. So when every single baddie he's ever pissed off gathers above Trenzalore's skies, The Doctor and new companion Clara go to investigate. Lo and behold, they find the last crack in the universe. Through it, a single message emerges. "Doctor Who?"
It's the Time Lords, sending a message through all time and space. If The Doctor says his name, the Time Lords will know they have the right universe and come on through...straight into the waiting gunfire of the Daleks, Cybermen, and everyone else who hates them. Stuck in the middle are the innocent people of Trenzalore.
So The Doctor, realising he can't let his people through nor abandon the people of Trenzalore, decides that he's going to stay and protect both. No matter how long it takes.
This episode is action packed, dramatic, it gives final answers to all of the loose plot questions left hanging, and it shows the true measure of The Doctor's noble and protective nature. It was nothing short of a perfect farewell to one of the greatest Doctors of all time.
