9. Peter Capaldi Is Cast As The 12th Doctor

On June 1 2013, the Angels had a reason to weep as 11th Doctor actor Matt Smith's announced he was leaving the show in the 2013 Christmas Special. Like regeneration itself, casting the next Doctor was a dodgy process as the Doctor could resemble anyone, young, old, fat, skinny, girl or man. In August 2013 it was finally announced that the rumoured favorite for the casting choice, Scottish actor, Peter Capaldi was officially cast the 12th Doctor. Peter Capaldi's past work has shown that he is clearly a talented actor with unforgettable performances such as the ferocious Malcom Tucker on "In The Thick Of It". It's also worth mentioning that Peter Capaldi has already been in Doctor Who in two forms, as Caecilius in "The Fires Of Pompei" and as John Frobisher on Torchwood: Children of Earth. Perhaps the most telling trait of all is the fact that Peter Capaldi has been a life long fan of Doctor Who and even wrote Doctor Who fan letters to the BBC when he was a child. Being a fan of Doctor Who and already proving himself as an adaptable actor, Peter Capaldi already showed great promise of being an excellent Doctor. Casting the 12th incarnation of the Time Lord to call himself The Doctor was a defining moment in Doctor Who canon. Peter Capaldi's cameo as the 12th Doctor in the 50th Anniversary received a very positive response from fans. Now, after appearing for roughly twenty seconds in at the end of The Time Of The Doctor I do wish that he had a little more time to give off longer lasting first impression before the long wait until August, but from what has been seen it looks like the Doctor's future is in very capable hands.
