11 Biggest Problems With The Chris Chibnall Doctor Who Era

9. Too Much Of The Sonic Screwdriver

The sonic screwdriver such an very important part of Doctor Who lore that's been around ever since the Patrick Troughton era, but it's likely that many have really gone off it in recent times. The Doctor uses it so much that it's been turned into a lazy plot device that seems to resolve literally every single episode!

It always feels like all The Doctor has to do to save the day is just use the screwdriver and as a result, not only are the episode conclusions becoming extremely repetitive, but this is actually robbing the stories of stakes and suspense.

Sure, the Twelfth Doctor's sonic shades were divisive and not entirely successful, but they were certainly preferable to the tedious overuse of the sonic screwdriver here.
