11 Doctor Who Rumours That Turned Out To Be Complete Twaddle
11. The Death Of Amy Pond
Back in 2011 the BBC's decision to split the latest series of Doctor Who into two parts, to be aired in the spring and autumn, was one that was met with the inevitable tidal wave of excitement and frustration from the Doctor's legion of fans. Whether you liked the idea or not, though, you no doubt still took the time to indulge in the foray of fevered speculation that surrounded the inevitable twist that would play out as the cliffhanger of the show's new format. Never one to miss out on a party, the ever reliable Sun newspaper also attempted to get tongues wagging by claiming that the then-current companion Amy Pond would sensationally pop her clogs as part of the show's "game changing" mid-series conclusion. The word "game changing" actually came from the BBC so they only had themselves to blame for the outlandish theories that came their way during the build up to the episode in question. Although she ultimately didn't die, it was still pretty eventful for the girl who waited as it transpired she had actually been a doppelgänger clone for most of the series whilst the real version of her was getting ready to give birth to a psychopathic baby who had been conditioned to grow up and kill the Doctor. In retrospect, maybe killing her off would've resulted in a lot less confusion.
