11 Doctor Who Rumours That Turned Out To Be Complete Twaddle
6. A Blast From The Past
Doctor Who always finds itself under an intense degree of speculative scrutiny but the far reaching fever reached new levels during the build up to the show's momentous 50th anniversary back in 2013. In fact, no stone was left unturned in the formidable rumour department as pretty much every name under the sun was rumoured to be involved in the commemorations at one point or another. One of the most intriguing claims (this one was from the Express) suggested that one of the show's original leading characters - the Doctor's granddaughter Susan Foreman - would be back to play a part in the landmark festivities. Her name was certainly at the top of a lot of Whovian wishlists and what better way to honour half a century of the Time Lord's than by reintroducing one of his first ever companions? Her on screen comeback untimely came to nothing, though, but her real life alter ego, Carole Ann Ford, did contribute to the celebrations by guest hosting a segment of the 2013 Doctor Who Proms. For Susan fans, though, that was your lot. The same report did foretell the return of Billie Piper but that was always pretty inevitable. It also wrongly implied that Karen Gillan would be involved in the 50th anniversary special but the actress did make a surprise return at the end of the year for the Eleventh Doctor's regeneration, if that counts. (It doesn't.)
