11 Doctor Who Spin Offs That Really Should've Happened By Now
11. The Long Awaited Eighth Doctor Adventures
WHY: Starting off with a doozy, surely everyone can understand the appeal of the Eighth Doctor? If you don't, and also enjoy things under that delightful rock or homely cave somewhere in Gympie, Australia, the Eighth Doctor, as played by Paul McGann, is a Doctor who has certainly been given the short shrift when it comes to screen time with just one TV movie and a minisode to his name. But viewers of The Night of the Doctor, as well as listeners to the Big Finish audio dramas (Lucie Miller/To the Death and the Dark Eyes stories spring to mind) must all agree that Paul McGann is a terrific Doctor. Funny, charming, romantic and, by the end of his life, heartbroken over his friends, family and companions who ultimately die and a universe that burns. A miniseries, even a whole spin-off, to delve into the adventures of the Eighth Doctor would be welcome and after Paul McGann's performance in The Night of the Doctor, there is no doubt that this so-called 'Classic Doctor' appeals also to fans of the revived series, too. Make it happen, Beeb! WHAT: There is such a wealth of possibility as to ideas for episodes. The Eighth Doctor having three different timelines after the TV Movie from his Books, the comic strips and the Big Finish audios (continuity-wise, it must be noted that the latter only has been explicitly mentioned in The Night of the Doctor and the other two have been accepted as happening before the audios due to a combining of the timelines in the audio drama Zagreus). A spin-off would allow exploration into the 'lost stories' and a chance to see fan favourites such as Lucie Miller and Samantha Jones, and not-so-favourites such as Charley Pollard and C'rizz, on the small screen. Additionally, the writers could go the route of making up completely new stories in either a fourth divergent timeline or a continuation of the Big Finish one. The possibilities, like the divergent timelines, are endless.
