11 Forgotten Christmas Specials You Probably Haven't Seen
10. Santa Baby!
Historically important, in that this was Rankin/Bass' last Christmas production, released in syndication in 2001. It's also one of the few special to feature an all African-American cast, both before and (predominantly) behind the camera. Eartha Kitt appears, which is delightful as she sang the original version of the song, which has since been covered by dozens of performers, including Madonna, Taylor Swift and Calista Flockhart, AKA Ally McBeal. Gregory Hines plays Noel, a songwriter with two songs in him, desperate to write the third. His daughter is granted a wish after performing a good deed, and wishes for her Dad to write a hit song. The title song gets performed by Kitt, Vanessa Williams and Patti LaBelle. Incidentally, the special was co-written by Suzanne Collins, is better know for being the writer of the Hunger Games trilogy.
