11 Most Anticipated Comic Book TV Shows Coming In 2018

5. The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

Riverdale burst onto the scene last year with a brilliant aesthetic and an even greater cast, cultivating a dedicated following and propelling Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica into the spotlight once again.

It was one of the best comic book TV shows of last year, a fact that's been duly acknowledged by the folks at Netflix with the ordering of a series spin-off, based on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Starring Kiernan Shipka in the title role, the show will still be connected to the universe The CW have built with Riverdale, albeit it with a somewhat darker vibe, departing from the older TV sitcom based on the character that aired from 1996-2003.

Serving as an origin story for the character, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will further add to Netflix's more mature comic book adaptations, taking its inspiration from classic horror films more-so than the light-hearted escapades that typified the character's early years, and certainly her appearances in the early 2000s. Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa - the creator of the original Chilling Adventures comic - will also exec produce the series, which is great to see given how it's so rare.

The fact that Netflix have ordered two seasons also speaks volumes for how confident they are in the concept, and with a tentative 2018 date in mind, this is one show fans will most definitely have to binge.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
