11 Reasons The Big Bang Theory Is The Worst Thing On TV
9. Sheldon
There's a massive difference between a character being unable to process their own emotions and thereby struggling to acknowledge anyone else's, and a character deliberately ignoring other people's feelings. One is a character with room for development and nuance who you might, eventually, come to love. The other is an inconsiderate d*ckhead. Sheldon started as one, and is now the other. See if you can guess which.
He's now a walking bag of 'charming' quirks rather than anything resembling a character you can imagine existing in the actual real world. He's socially awkward! He knocks on a door three times and then says 'Penny'! He's an anally retentive ballbag who makes his friends' lives a misery! In all seriousness, it's pretty poor writing to create a character who definitely does have a definable character, but of whom you could say nothing about what he thinks of the world and how and why he comes to decisions further than the fact that he's a bit socially awkward. It's lazy.
What's even lazier is that the Shel-man feels like a get-out if the scene needs to be wrapped up sharpish and nobody can be bothered coming up with any proper jokes. If all else fails, get Sheldon to do something - anything - and then have him say "BAZONGLOR" in his own inimitable way. Again.
