11 Recent TV Shows That Surprised Everyone
3. The Flight Attendant
HBO Max is the only one of the major studio streaming services that has yet to launch in the UK, the result of a longstanding deal between HBO and Sky that gives the latter first-run rights to the shows of the former, but has left several HBO Max originals in limbo.
Thankfully The Flight Attendant is not one of them.
It could’ve been assumed that one of the many huge franchises owned by Warner Bros, such as Harry Potter, Batman or Game Of Thrones, would be the thing to get their platform off the ground, similar to how The Mandalorian became the first must see offering on Disney+.
Instead their first major standout has been a lowkey drama released without any marketing buzz.
Kaley Cuoco could’ve happily retired to a house made of money after eleven years on the Big Bang Theory. Opting to jump into multi-layered murder mystery drama was something of a left-field move, but one that has certainly paid off given the award nominations that the Flight Attendant has reaped. It may have only won a singular Emmy (for title music), but has put itself on the map in a genre that has become stale elsewhere.
It goes to dark places, delivers unexpected laughs and is short enough to blitz through over the course of a weekend afternoon. A winning combination for sure.
