11. "Inadvertently" Flipping People Off
Both Mr Watson and an ornery Scottish Time Lord managed to flip the bird at audiences, so it seems that even these admired characters can lose control of that impetuous middle finger of theirs. You can't blame them, really. Sherlock committed a false suicide without confiding in his best friend, and well... just eyeing that cocky smirk permanently etched across Robin Hood's face would make anyone acrimonious! These obscenely hilarious hand gestures are timed rather perfectly, however. In The Empty Hearse, Sherlock relays to Mrs Hudson that, in the midst of their reunion (which was a
very eventful evening), John basically told him to "Fu€". Meanwhile, John is snapping on his uniform latex gloves, his third finger remaining upright for an extended period of time, and diagnoses his patient with a "cough". How clever. The Twelfth Doctor is slightly more subtle and a re-watch of Robot of Sherwood (unless, of course, you're very observant of such things) will greet you with his notorious middle finger. It seems that he is fancifully twiddling his gloved hand, simply adding a ceremonial embellishment while he introduces himself and his very utilitarian choice of weaponry. But upon closer inspection€ how rude! Then again, rude is this Scotsman's middle name.
