8. Stringer Bell - The Wire
When it comes to The Wire, one of the greatest television shows of all time, there are two characters that instantly come to mind: Omar Little, and Stringer Bell. Stringer was the show's most compelling and brilliant to watch characters for the first three seasons, and his death in the eleventh episode of Season Three remains one of the show's most iconic and shocking moments.
Stringer was The Wire's quietest and most ambitious character, and during Season Three he was well on his way to building an empire. However, once he tried playing his enemies against one another, Omar Little and Brother Mouzone decided that Stringer's time was up. To seal Stringer's fate, childhood friend Avon allowed the two vengeful criminals to go ahead with taking him down.
At the end of the season, Stringer is killed by Omar and Mouzone, ending his aspirations.
It would have been good to see Stringer continue on the show, maybe with his story coming to an conclusion nearer the series' end. He was killed right in his prime, and deserved more time to show fans what he was really made of.
