12 Actors Who Want To Return To Doctor Who

11. Sylvester McCoy

Whenever a major Doctor Who anniversary episode rolls around, the one question on everybody's lips is "which previous Doctors are going to return?"

The Tom Bakers, David Tennants, and Matt Smiths of the world are always going to be the popular shouts, but as the Doctor who had his run cancelled when it had just found its stride, it would be wonderful to see Sylvester McCoy's Seventh incarnation get his due - particularly in the 60th, under the skilled penmanship of Russell T Davies.

In fact, McCoy has been fielding questions about a potential Doctor Who return for bloody ages, once telling BBC News he'd be "delighted" to come back:

"Would I do it? Yes, I'd be delighted to. I am a part of it, it hasn't ever gone away, and I celebrate the 21st century Doctors."

With the 60th anniversary inching ever closer, we may soon learn that McCoy will indeed be part of it. Or even better, how about a spinoff centring on the continued adventures of Seven and Ace, as part of RTD's mooted cinematic Whoniverse?

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
