4. The Shield
The cop drama is the ultimate hit-or-miss television genre. A show about the police can either crash and burn if it brings nothing new to the table, or it could triumph if it succeeds in putting an original spin on the police procedural.
Michael Chiklis' The Shield certainly triumphed in its depiction of a policeman willing to do anything it took to exact justice. It lasted seven incredible seasons, and attracted some outstanding acting talent. It was nominated for several Emmys, and Chiklis won one for his portrayal of Vic Mackey, the show's main character.
The shows dark subject material made it an extremely niche show for fans to watch, and much like the next entry on this list, it was unflinching in its brutality. As great as the show was, to sit through it twice may be asking too much. It was downright difficult to watch at times, and that is definitely a testament to the quality of the show.
Sometimes, the best things are only experienced once. Another run through would be too difficult and would not have the same effect on the viewer.
