12 Awful TV Shows That Were Cancelled Before You Even Saw Them

7. Me And The Chimp

Me And The Chimp Reta Shaw Buttons 1972 How could you possibly resist a title like that? It would seem we were to be in store for some hijinks from man's greatest sidekick. In terms of gimmicky cuteness, the accepted hierarchy is generally Kids Puppies Monkeys, so there's really no reason why this show should have failed, but fail it did. This particular human/monkey sitcom revolves around a dentist named Ted and his family, who decide to accept Buttons, a chimp who washed out of the space program, into their home. Why a dentist would keep an animal that traditionally becomes unpredictable during adolescence and could potentially rip his children apart isn't ever really covered. But as luck would have it, Buttons is less violent and more sociopathically devious, and sets out to ruin Ted's life, through a serious of malicious acts. In one episode he steals an alarm clock which ends up getting Ted arrested for public indecency and presumably thrust unfairly onto the sex offender registry. Thanks to Buttons, poor Ted now has to inform his neighbours every time he moves home. Me and the Chimp first aired in 1972, and only lasted thirteen episodes before being swiftly cancelled.
